Misanthropy

Now that I have your attention I have to let you partially down. This isn’t about the DaVinci code, but it is about the possibility that Jesus did have a wife and children. Many news sites, including CNN, are reporting on a press conference that is slated for today.

James Cameron has filmed a new documentary that is going to air on the Discovery channel on March 4th, 2007. The documentary is about the discovery of 10 ossuaries in 1980 that purportedly belonged to Jesus, his wife, and children. Through some DNA analysis Cameron is claiming proof of this. If this turns out to be true, the foundations of the Christian faith will be rocked to the core. As you may, or may not know, one of Christianity’s cornerstones of belief is that Jesus died and was resurrected on the third day and ascending to Heaven shortly after.

While technically this wouldn’t rule out his initial death and resurrection it would rule out his ascension, and many other things listed in the bible. The unfortunate reality here however is that if this is conclusively proven to be true the followers of the faith will disregard this as some hocus pocus. It’ll do nothing more than show their faith is unshakable and they’re unable, unwilling to accept when science triumphs over age old stories of god-men walking the Earth. Oh well.
